The reason some viewers dislike the development of Song Hye Kyo and Lee Do Hyun’s love line in “The Glory” Part 2
Netflix’s “The Glory” Part 2 captivated viewers and achieved remarkable results as soon as it was released on March 10th.
As writer Kim Eun Sook and the actors previously emphasized, “There will be no forgiveness in the ending”, Part 2 showed all the wounds and school violence pain that Moon Dong Eun (Song Hye Kyo) suffered being returned to the perpetrators, and the revenge she meticulously prepared succeeded. The drama also proved that the solidarity between the victims was much stronger than that of the perpetrators.
While other popular series, such as JTBC’s “Reborn Rich” and tvN’s “Crash Course in Romance”, were criticized for having solid developments but bad endings, “The Glory” maintained its high-level completeness until the last episode.
However, some netizens raised divided opinions regarding the romance between Moon Dong Eun and Joo Yeo Jeong (Lee Do Hyun). Although there are many compliments, some people commented on SNS sites and online communities pointing out that their immersion was broken when the two’s melodramatic scenes suddenly popped out in the middle of Dong Eun’s intense revenge.
The reason for such a reaction is that the love line between Dong Eun and Yeo Jeong doesn’t have a significant impact on the way viewers understand and enjoy the plot. In fact, even if the love line is removed, the developments of the revenge story are already enough to complete a good drama. It is true that Yeo Jeong helps Dong Eun both physically and emotionally, however, some people still think Yeo Jeong should only stay as a helper. Some netizens also mentioned specific words in Yeo Jeong’s lines, such as “command”, “sword dance”, etc., saying that they are unnatural.
Dong Eun and Yeo Jeong’s romance, which was given much more screen time in Part 2 than before, was said to be unconvincing and failed to arouse sympathy from viewers. This doesn’t mean Lee Do Hyun’s acting skills are not good. It is because the revenge story of “The Glory” and the love line do not harmonize perfectly.
In the meantime, some viewers actually show support for Moon Dong Eun and Ha Do Young (Jung Sung Il) to become a couple.
