Netizens criticized the way the 2022 MAMA AWARDS is being held.
Day 1 of the 2022 MAMA AWARDS (hereinafter referred to as ‘MAMA’) was held at Kyocera Dome Osaka, Japan on November 29th.
Hosted by Jeon So Mi, MAMA awarded Bonsang Worldwide Fans’ Choice, the main category determined by 100% fan votes, to Stray Kids, Seventeen, TREASURE, TXT, GOT7, Psy, NCT DREAM, Enhypen, BTS, and BLACKPINK. In addition, BTS was also honored with Daesang Worldwide Icon of the Year.
Awarding four 4th-generation girl groups IVE, Kep1er, LE SSERAFIM and NMIXX with Favorite New Artist and announcing winners for some other categories, MAMA also presented various spectacular stages. However, some people still gave unfavorable reviews about how this year’s award ceremony was held.
Viewers said they couldn’t understand why MAMA was conducted in English with Korean subtitles despite being a Korean awards ceremony.
Some Internet users commented, “They hold MAMA in Japan and use English. I can’t get it”, “I don’t like the way MAMA is pretending to be a world-class event just by using English”, etc.
Meanwhile, the 2022 MAMA will continue with Day 2 on November 30th. Winners for main awards, such as Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year, will be announced on this day.
