“The one who cursed at his teacher is another student,” why did Nam Joo-hyuk’s alumni step up to defend him?

Since actor Nam Joo-hyuk’s alleged school violence case broke out, his alumni have been scrambling to testify the facts.

Some media outlets have argued that “at least four people have claimed to have been  hurt by Nam Joo-hyuk,” but other alumni who spent their high school days with Nam Joo-hyuk claim that “What they are saying is different from the truth.”

Last month, a media outlet reported the word of an informant, saying that Nam Joo-hyuk forced him to buy bread for him from the snack bar, and bullied him by taking away his cell phone and making paid online payments without his permission.

In addition, this informant claimed that Nam Joo-hyuk made him do unwanted “sparring” and bullied his friends by throwing mechanical pencil leads at them.

However, following Park and some others who identified themselves as Nam Joo-hyuk’s high school alumni and wrote the posts on online communities, Nam Joo-hyuk’s first and third-year homeroom teachers, except for his second-year high school homeroom teacher who had left the school due to retirement, agreed to appear in the interview with Dispatch to clear the false accusations regarding their student.

Why do those who are living a peaceful daily life reveal themselves to the media?

They said, “I don’t know who the informant is, but I want to actively inform the situation at the time about what happened during Nam Joo-hyuk’s school days.”

Shin, who was in the same class as Nam Joo-hyuk when he was in his third year of high school, said, “There was another friend (A) who flipped the school upside down by making an online payment with a teacher’s cell phone.

Nam Joo-hyuk’s alumni and high school teachers also remembered that Nam Joo-hyuk had gotten into a physical fight with A.

Shin continued, “I remember seeing A getting into arguments back and forth with his classmates and acting a little exaggerated during class,” adding, “When we were in our high school senior year, A even cursed at our Korean history teacher, saying ‘What are you talking about, you XX?’ I remember the teacher taking a leave of absence because they were so shocked by it, and at that time, Nam Joo-hyuk was mainly on the side of stopping A.”

Another friend Lim, who was also in the same class as Nam Joo-hyuk in the second and third grade, said, “A was obviously wrong when he swore at the teacher and everyone hated getting involved with A. A was not a bully but he was tall and he got involved in fights frequently so Nam Joo-hyuk, who was tall and good at sports, was rather discouraged. On that day, A hit Nam Joo-hyuk and it turned into a fight. The fight ended soon, but A did not go to school for 1-2 days because his pride was hurt. If Nam Joo-hyuk had done something wrong, the teachers would have done something. They got to understand each other after knowing the other’s situation and it ended there”.

Earlier, Nam Joo-hyuk was accused of doing things that could be considered ‘cyberbullying’, such as swearing in a group chatroom, on Youtube, causing netizens to question the authenticity of the revelation.

Since there was a part where Nam Joo-hyuk swore in the group chatroom, it was necessary to find out who was affected by the incident and why it happened.

According to S, who was a student in the group chatroom, the incident started with a female student swearing and bullying a male student named K.

S explained, “At that time when the case of K being bullied became a problem, a friend created a group chatroom and invited other friends to solve it by themselves. It seems like friends who heard K was abused and bullied unilaterally criticized the girl and some even cursed. About three people managed the chatroom but Nam Joo-hyuk was not among them. As far as I know, there were about three swear words in the chatroom. I know that the friends in the group chatroom were scolded as the female student said so. Later, some of them made up with the girl.

In fact, even if there was someone who bullied other students, creating a group chatroom to find solutions privately is likely to be a problematic behavior. In order to check the details of the incident, S tried to ask male student K and the female student who had to listen to those abusive words. However, both reportedly told their alumni that they would not come forward, saying “It’s something in the past and I don’t want to make things big.

Some media outlets are reportedly preparing additional reports on specific damages, saying that there were more than four victims of school violence caused by Nam Joo-hyuk. While Nam Joo-hyuk’s side claims that “there was no unilateral bullying”, attention is being paid to what result Nam Joo-hyuk’s school bullying suspicion will reach.
