The new trailer of “Steel Unit 2” is sparking controversy over “sexual objectifying” by emphasizing the cast’s body exposure 

“Steel Unit 2” is causing controversy over “sexual objectifying” due to excessive exposure on its first broadcast. People’s opinions are divided, but the production team has decided to remake the trench fight scene.  

Recently, the production crew of Channel A and SKY’s “Steel Unit 2” drew attention after releasing a trailer for the series’ 2nd episode which is scheduled to air on March 1st.

The released trailer for the 2nd episode showed the cast members taking off their tops and continuing their trench battles following last week.

Continuing right the match between the team leaders of Group 1, who boasted strong combat power in the first episode, the trench battle of Group 2 will begin.

Oh Sang-young, a member of the “Special Warfare“, and Kang Chung-myung, a “SART” (Special Search and Rescue Team), will participate in the match.

As a result, the MCs expressed their expectations for Oh Sang-young and Kang Chung-myung but worried about the early elimination of Lee Jung-won (the 707th Special Mission), who has a relatively weak physique compared to other troops.

In the first broadcast, 32 participants took off their tops and fought in trench battles.

In a snowstorm, the cast trembled in the cold and took off their tops, while the scenes of them taking off their clothes are shown with a “close-up” or “slow-motion” effect applied.

The program MCs also said, “Wow, their bodies are angry,” and “This is awesome, their muscles can clearly be seen,” and “I was curious about their bodies, but theirs are really good,” focusing only on the bodies of the cast. 

Some viewers who encountered the scene showed negative reactions such as “This is excessive exposure,” “This would have been crazy if it was the opposite sex,” and “It was too provocative,” raising controversy over “sexual commercialization.”

Those who expressed displeasure also suggested that they did not know if scenes showing their bodies were necessary.

However, some expressed their opinion that there was no problem considering the purpose of the program. They added that soldiers often take off their tops when actually fighting in trenches in the military.
