The late Lee Sun-kyun’s two posthumous works are finally about to be released
It has been reported that discussions among film industry insiders are ongoing regarding the release of two posthumous works by the late actor Lee Sun-kyun. One of his posthumous works, the movie "The Land of Happiness", is likely to be released this year
According to Maeil Business Newspaper on March 22nd, film industry sources revealed that distributors for Lee Sun-kyun’s two posthumous works, “The Land of Happiness” and “PROJECT SILENCE”, have recently resumed discussions regarding their release.
According to News1, NEW, the distributor for “The Land of Happiness”, stated “We are considering a release within this year” and mentioned that they are coordinating the release schedule, indicating a high possibility of the film being released this year.
“The Land of Happiness” depicts the story of a person caught up in an incident that shook modern history and a lawyer struggling to fight for him, with Lee Sun-kyun starring as the lead character, soldier Park Tae-joo.
As for “PROJECT SILENCE”, the film received acclaim after being invited to the Midnight Screening section of the 76th Cannes Film Festival in May last year. “PROJECT SILENCE” depicts people who are isolated on the airport bridge just before collapse in an indistinguishable thick fog, struggling to survive the unexpected threats lurking in it. In “PROJECT SILENCE”, Lee Sun-kyun played the role of Cha Jung-won, a presidential aide trapped on the airport bridge hit by the disaster.
Both “The Land of Happiness” and “PROJECT SILENCE” have completed filming. “The Land of Happiness” was filmed from October 2021 to January 2022, while “PROJECT SILENCE” was filmed almost four years ago, from October 2020 to February 2021.
Initially, both films were set for release, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Lee Sun-kyun’s drug scandal, they were unable to be released and remained in storage.
A film industry insider stated, “It seems that the situation has been largely sorted out by the officials involved in the two projects. Considering all factors such as box office success, it is likely that the release timing will be determined.“
