The “Jimin Effect”: BTS’s Jimin is No.1 among K-pop stars with highest Instagram follower increase, followed by Jessi 

BTS’s Jimin shows off his impact by being crowned the K-pop star who gained the most followers on Instagram in the past two weeks.

According to K-pop radar, which analyzes K-pop fandom data, the personal Instagram account of BTS’s Jimin for a total of 7 days from July 10, 2022 to July 16, 2022 saw an increase of 875,527 followers. 

From July 3, 2022 to July 9, 2022, the number of Jimin’s followers increased by 815,303, proving his strong global popularity with an increase of more than 800,000 followers for the second week in a row.

Jimin’s Instagram gained the highest number of followers on Instagram each day over 12 days in a row from July 1 to July 12, remaining unrivaled among K-pop artists.  

On July 15, singer-actress Uhm Jung Hwa, singer-rapper Jessi, W Korea editor and director ChaJkaW, and actor Kim Young Kwang posted photos taken with Jimin on SNS, drawing attention from fans.

In particular, Jessi shared selfies with Jimin and referred to him as “The sweetest”. She also praised Jimin’s personality by saying “Jimin is the nicest person in the world” through her Instagram live broadcast and comments.

As a result, attention was drawn to Jessi’s Instagram. The female rapper also saw an explosive increase in Instagram followers. In the ranking of K-pop stars with the highest follower increase within a day on July 15th, Jessi ranked second after Jimin, realizing the “Jimin effect”. 

In 2019, Jimin was the person whose hashtag is the most mentioned in the world on Instagram. He has been holding the throne for three years so far. As of 7 pm KST on July 15, Jimin’s hashtag #jimin has exceeded 69.26 million mentions and he still holds 1st place.

In addition, Jimin’s first OST “With You”, released in April, has also been used more than 100,000 times as background music by Instagram users within two months of its release. It is the most used song among BTS members’ OSTs on Instagram. 

The 4th concept photo among Jimin’s “Butter” concept photos posted on BTS’s official Instagram in 2021 was ranked No.8, with more than 2 million comments, among the Top 9 posts with the most comments on Instagram worldwide in 2022. Jimin is the only Korean and Asian celebrity to be named in the ranking. Jimin’s concept photo drew even more attention as world-famous star Jennifer Lopez also showed her love for him by pressing Like. 

On YouTube, the hashtag #jimin was registered in about 2 million videos from more than 228,000 channels, becoming the most used hashtag on YouTube among BTS members. Jimin was also selected by NetBase Quid as the most mentioned solo artist on social media in May and June.

Jimin, who is called the “Twitter Emperor”, was chosen as the “Most Mentioned Singer on Twitter” by Time Magazine in 2016, surpassing Justin Bieber and many other global stars. 

Although he is not very active on Instagram, Jimin’s account is receiving huge attention every day, surpassing 39.49 million followers as of 9:00 pm KST on July 18.
