Jeon So-mi takes the “Summer Queen” throne with her new song “Fast Forward”
Jeon So-mi has claimed the “Summer Queen” title. With her new song “Fast Forward,” she is currently one of the most powerful solo female artists to make a summer comeback, showcasing remarkable digital music strength.
Jeon So-mi’s title track “Fast Forward” from her mini-album “GAME PLAN,” released on August 7th, secured the 8th place on the Certified Music Chart’s 32nd week (August 20th to 26th). She is the only female solo artist to enter the top 10.
She is also making a significant presence on Melon Chart, considered one of the largest music platforms in South Korea. Jeon So-mi’s “Fast Forward” ranked 5th in the daily chart as of the 3rd.
The competition among female solo artists this summer, aiming for the title of “Summer Queen,” was intense. Singers with strong fan bases and high recognition released summer-themed songs one after another, leaving no room for cooling off.
Jeon So-mi, along with other summer hitmakers like SISTAR’s Soyou, Kwon Eun-bi who transformed into a “Water Bomb” goddess, TWICE’s Jihyo, GFRIEND’s powerful vocalist Yerin, IZ*ONE’s Jo Yuri who gained popularity through the “Squid Game” casting, and Girls’ Generation’s legend Hyoyeon, all released new songs and jumped into the “Summer Queen” competition.
Although the competition was fierce, it was challenging for female solo artists to release songs that could change the music chart landscape significantly. Among them, Jeon So-mi positioned herself at the top with “Fast Forward.” As of the 3rd, the only dance genre new song by a female solo artist to enter the Melon daily chart top 100 is Jeon So-mi’s “Fast Forward.”
Since the song’s release, it has received positive feedback as it combines refreshing sound with Jeon So-mi’s powerful vocals, making it a perfect song to listen to during the summer season. “Fast Forward” started on the Circle Chart’s weekly chart at 50th place (32nd week) and then climbed to 17th place (33rd week), successfully entering the top 10.
The dance challenge for “Fast Forward” played a significant role in boosting the song’s popularity. The energetic and spectacular Techtonik dance, characterized by vigorous arm movements, set to a powerful electro beat, was a trend in the late 2000s but had faded from public memory. Jeon So-mi, who brought back this dance, stirred the memories of those in their 30s and 40s and provided fresh enjoyment to those in their teens and twenties, successfully targeting the tastes of the so-called MZ generation. The music video also included scenes of using the nostalgic flip phone.

Jeon So-mi, a former member of the “Produce 101” project group I.O.I, began her solo career in 2019 and achieved success on the music charts with songs like “Birthday” and “Dumb Dumb.” Before releasing her latest mini-album with “Fast Forward,” she had a gap of nearly two years, and the performance of her previous title track “XOXO” left some room for improvement in terms of music chart performance. In this context, Jeon So-mi’s “Fast Forward” activity is drawing attention as she successfully solidifies her position, dispelling concerns and doubts.
