The hot drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” continues to witness a viewer rating decrease after sparking controversy over misandry

The viewer rating of ENA’s drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” saw a slight decline.

According to the rating research company Nielsen Korea on August 11th, episode 13 of ENA’s “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, which aired on the previous day (August 10th), recorded an average nationwide rating of 13.515% (based on households subscribed to paid platforms).

This is a 1.4% drop from the 14.9% rating recorded in episode 12. However, “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” still ranked No.1 among Wednesday-Thursday dramas, showing off its amazing popularity.

In episode 13, the story of Hanbada attorneys who were in charge of a lawsuit claiming the return of unfair profits for the collection of cultural heritage admission fees was depicted. Apart from the case, the main character Woo Young-woo (Park Eun-bin) was seen meeting the family of Lee Joon-ho (Kang Tae-oh), who opposed their marriage.

Some viewers pointed out that Woo Young-woo’s growth with autistic spectrum disorder was interesting but the fun of the drama has been halved since the proportion of love lines increased.

In addition, many people criticized the controversy over misandry, which means the dislike of men.

Earlier, the expression “5.5 trillion”, which is used online as a word to show hate against men, was posted on the official Instagram account of ENA, causing netizens’ rage to arise.

Moreover, the place where Woo Kwang-ho (Jeon Bae-soo) and Tae Soo-mi (Jin Kyung) had a conflict over pregnancy and abortion was at “41, Hannam-dong”. After the broadcast, netizens pointed out this scene claiming that “Hannam” is a word that disparages men and “74” is a kind of slang that indicates sexual activity.

In addition, some people also raised the issue with the content of episode 12, which deals with the case of Mir Life Insurance’s female employees’ voluntary retirement. The viewers complained of displeasure after watching this episode, saying “They form a frame in which men are the perpetrators and women are the victims.”

The production team has not yet released any official position on the controversy over misandry.

Attention is focused on whether “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, which started at 0.9% then became popular and reached the rating peak of 15.8%, will be able to recover its upward trend in viewer rating performance after overcoming the misandry controversy.

Meanwhile, “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” has only three episodes left until it ends.
