Joo Hyun-young, “The greeting ‘Woo to the Young to the Woo’ was inspired by the lyrics of BIG BANG’s song ‘Last Farewell’”
Actress Joo Hyun-young revealed that the greeting of Woo Young-woo and Dong Geu-ra-mi she created in “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” was inspired by the lyrics of BIG BANG’s song.
On August 24th, XSports News reported the interview conducted with Joo Hyun-young after ENA’s “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” ended.
During the interview, Joo Hyun-young mentioned the greeting of Woo Young-woo (Park Eun-bin) and Dong Geu-ra-mi (Joo Hyun-young) in “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”. It’s a greeting in which Dong Geu-ra-mi says “Woo to the Young to the Woo” and makes some funny moves, then Woo Young-woo answers “Dong to the Geu to the Ra-mi” every time they meet.
Joo Hyun-young said, “I was written as ‘Woo Young Woo Young-woo Dong Dong Geu-ra-mi’ in the script. Then the writer told me to make a cute action for both of us. I remembered I made something like that when appearing on Coupang Play’s ‘SNL Korea’”.
Joo Hyun-young said that she wanted to make it interesting and hilarious. At that time, she mentioned the song “Last Farewell” that BIG BANG released in 2007.
The actress shared, “Among BIG BANG’s songs that I listened to when I was young, there was one with the lyrics ‘B to the I to the G’. In fact, Dong Geu-ra-mi are in the same generation. In the drama, they also sing T-Ara’s ‘You Drive Me Crazy’”.
In addition, Joo Hyun-young also said that she searched for hip-hop gestures on SNS and followed them when asked to make the greeting look cool and hip.
Joo Hyun-young smiled and said, “When I first made it, I didn’t think it would be that funny. I didn’t have much confidence in it but I still showed it to the writer and she said, ‘So cute. I can’t wait to see Young-woo do it’”, adding “I did it for the first time at the script reading and the response was so good.”
The greeting created by Joo Hyun-young became viral not only in Korea but also overseas.
Meanwhile, Joo Hyun-young was greatly loved for her performance as Woo Young-woo’s best friend and part-timer at Hairy’s Pub in “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”.
