Actor Song Kang-ho looked back on his acting career as tears welled up in his eyes.
IU‘s official YouTube channel recently released a new episode of “IU’s Palette” with Song Kang-ho, Kang Dong-won, and Lee Ju-young, the main casts of the movie “Broker.”
During the talkshow, there was a corner where the guests were asked to give each other compliments that they had never heard of before. IU and Lee Ju-young picked each other, but Song Kang-ho and Kang Dong-won picked their own names. It was possible to change the order, but IU said they could compliment themselves. Song Kang-ho and Kang Dong-won seemed shy and didn’t know what to say, but soon praised themselves seriously.
In particular, Song Kang-ho felt emotional when he looked back on his acting career of 27 years. He said, “Acting is a lonely job. There is always a pressure to be busy and do well rather than being flashy. So time flies. The public compliments and criticizes only by looking at the outermost part of our achievements and results,” he shared.
Then, Song Kang-ho said, “The reason why I was able to endure those things throughout 27 years…” before tears welled up in his eyes, saying, “I’m suddenly about to cry.”
IU and other actors were stunned as they have never seen this side of him before. Song Kang-ho continued to talk with his teary eyes and smiled awkwardly.
He said, “I have never received any compliment about this before. Nevertheless, I think I can praise myself for being able to endure and come all this way. I think I can encourage myself as I have gone through such difficult times,” he added.
IU expressed her gratitude, saying, “I didn’t know you would tell me such a serious story.” Song Kang-ho also said, “I was embarrassed because it wasn’t in the script, but I like this. Where else can I talk about this?” he said with a smile.
Song Kang-ho, as the first Korean, won the “Best Actor” award at the Cannes International Film Festival in France on May 28th (local time).
The movie “Broker” starring Song Kang-ho, Kang Dong-won, Bae Doo-na, Lee Ji-eun (IU), and Lee Ju-young will be released on Jun 8th.
