The director of “Squid Game” mentioned the possibility of producing season 2

Direct Hwang Dong Hyuk recently expressed his thoughts on having the 2nd season of Netflix’s drama “Squid Game”

On September 24 (local time), U.S Variety reported an interview with director Hwang Dong Hyuk, who scripted and directed “Squid Game”.

After “Squid Game” was released on Netflix on September 17, it became the first Korean drama to dominate the No.1 spot on the world’s box office.

During the interview, director Hwang said,

“I wanted to write a story that was an allegory or fable about the modern capitalist society. As a survival game, “Squid Game” is an entertainment and human drama. The games in the movie are very simple and easy to understand. Therefore, viewers can focus on the characters without trying to interpret the rules.”

In particular, while many movie fans are looking forward to season2, the director said,

“I haven’t made any detailed plan for season 2 yet. I feel tired just thinking about it”. Moreover, he added, “However, if I were to make season 2, I would definitely not do it alone. I want to work with other writers and experienced directors.”

It is said that scripting a drama is much more complicated than writing a movie, and it could take up to 6 months to write 2 episodes alone.

Meanwhile, “Squid Game” tells the story of people who participated in a mysterious survival game to win the prize of 45.6 billion won. Once the participants join the game, they have no other choice but to risk their lives to challenge the game and become the final winner.
