The dark history of the ex-husband’s family of Abby Choi: Father-in-law involved in an unsolved case as a police investigator

The entire family of four has a dark past that few people know about, as they have been shielded by their former daughter-in-law, Abby Choi.

On February 24th, Abby Choi, a 28-year-old former model from Hong Kong (China) and wife of Chris Tam, who owns the billion-dollar restaurant chain “Tamjai Hunnan Mixian”, was brutally murdered.

The news shook Hong Kong and even the world, as the extremely cunning and cruel plot came from a group of perpetrators who were her former in-laws.

The suspects, including her former father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and ex-husband, have been arrested. But few people know the dark history of this cruel family. According to online comments, this family is like a real-life version of “Parasite” in Hong Kong.

The ex-husband of Abby Choi, surnamed Kwong, was involved in a gold investment scam in February 2015 that swindled four people out of 5 million Hong Kong dollars worth of gold. The victims had withdrawn all their savings and borrowed money to purchase the gold from Kwong, who fled after obtaining the gold. The incident was previously reported in the media.

Although the older brother of the ex-husband (31 years old) has no criminal record, he faced overwhelming debt in 2019 and was sued by the bank. The ex-mother-in-law (63 years old), who has retired, filed for bankruptcy in 2016.

Of particular note is the ex-father-in-law of Abby Choi, 65 years old, who used to be a police officer and received a long-term service commendation from the Hong Kong Police Force. In 2001, he was promoted to the police chief, and in 2005, he was appointed head of the investigation department at the Wong Tai Sin Police District.

However, during this time, the ex-father-in-law displayed questionable integrity and was later involved in a rape case during a criminal investigation. The victim reported the crime, and he was arrested for investigation before resigning voluntarily. The case ended there.

It is believed that the former father-in-law of Abby Choi, with his experience working in the police force, was the mastermind behind this horrific crime. He was familiar with police investigation methods, which allowed him to stage the crime and deceive investigators.

At the same time, he made many unclear statements, leading the police astray with vague and false information. However, all his efforts were unable to deceive the police.

Furthermore, as a former police officer, Abby Choi’s father-in-law knew well that Hong Kong does not impose the death penalty. Therefore, no matter how serious the crimes committed, the highest penalty they can receive is life imprisonment.

The house where Abby Choi was murdered in Lung Mei, Hong Kong.

Citing the testimonies of neighbors in Lung Mei, Hong Kong media reported that the house’s owner already moved to another place long ago and this house has changed its renter many times.

Accordingly, a few weeks before the suspect’s family moved in, a man in his 60s often came to the house in a 7-seater car. This man looked unfriendly and he always checked the area before entering the house.

The man was accompanied by a woman around 60 years old with curly hair. It is suspected that the two are the parents of Abby Choi’s ex-husband. The last time neighbors saw them was on February 23rd, a day before they were officially arrested by the police.

All 4 members of this family have unsavory backgrounds, but it was Abby Choi who tried to cover them up.

Abby Choi married her ex-husband when she was 18 years old. The two have 2 children (one son and one daughter) but then divorced because they felt that they could no longer understand each other. However, Abby Choi still supported her children and ex-husband’s family financially. She even bought an expensive apartment in Kadoorie Hill, where famous actor Andy Lau lives, for them.

The main cause of this tragedy was reportedly a dispute over money between Abby Choi and her ex-husband’s family. Abby Choi planned to sell the apartment to invest, but her ex-husband’s family was worried they would no longer have a place to live, so they did not allow her to sell. Abby Choi’s ex-father-in-law even threatened, “if you sell the apartment without arranging things for us, I will kill you”. This was revealed by her best friend with the account name “Biaotai”.

In addition, because her ex-husband was unemployed, the former model also hired him as her private driver and covered all of his expenses. She treated him with respect but ended up receiving a heartbreaking ending.
