“The Childe” starring Kim Seon Ho garners positive acclaim after theatrical release

“The Childe” has been receiving new success despite facing other big titles.

“The Childe” follows the chase between Marco – an up-and-coming boxer in the Philippines – and three unknown pursuers. Marco goes to Korea to look for his father and seek financial support to pay for his mother’s hospital bills. There, he encounters a group of individuals from the underworld and is dragged into crazy, suspenseful pursuits.

Among the influx and dominance of foreign movies, “The Childe” is expected to be a domestic hit that attracts cinema-goers and extend on the impressive achievements of “The Round-up: No Way Out” starring Ma Dong Seok.

The series is also receiving much praise from the Korean media. Directed by Park Hoon Jung – the man behind “The Witch Pt.1” and other action works – “The Childe” carries a distinct noir color incorporated with elements of dark comedy so as to be more accessible to the audience while maintaining the same level of harsh bitterness the movie aims for.

One news said that “The Childe” was filled with many characters of different colors that they broke the boundaries between good and evil. They added that the suspense in the clashes was over the top and all details were bound together into a perfectly coherent whole.

Moreover, the action sequences were distinctively Park Hoon Jung. Ten Asia said, “Mise-en-scène through spectacular actions such as car chases, gun action, wires, boxing, and naked body action” leaves the audience on a never-ending rollercoaster of exhilaration.

More importantly, Kim Seon Ho garnered major attraction with his first villain role on the big screen, setting this role apart from other, more familiar images of the actor on the small screen. Asia Economics stated that this character, called Nobleman, would leave a mark in the audience’s mind with a handsome look and sparkling eyes. As a murderer, Nobleman was often seen drinking Coca, instead of smoking or drinking. In the first half, his character is portrayed in full followed by action scenes of extreme violence in the second half.

Kang Tae Joo also proved excellent acting chops after beating 1980 contestants for the role. Kim Kang Woo and Go Ara also successfully portrayed the uniqueness of their characters.
