As the Elbaf arc of “One Piece” progresses, fans eagerly awaited the release of the latest volume. With the new volume comes a new SBS corner from Oda, where he answers fan questions.
Oda has often been asked which Devil Fruit he’d want, and this time, the question came with a twist: he had to choose two. “Oda-sensei, if you could eat two Devil Fruits, which ones would you choose?”

This likely references Blackbeard, who is the only person in the One Piece world to possess two Devil Fruits. Oda humorously responded, “Eh! Two?! Clear Clear Fruit (absolutely) and… uuuhhh… Clear Clear Fruit (absolutely) and Warp Warp Fruit (objective decision)! It’s so I can save people!”
Oda’s answer is more of a joke. He chose the “Suke Suke no Mi,” which grants invisibility, a power Oda has previously mentioned wanting, partly for comedic reasons. The second pick is the “Wapu Wapu no Mi,” which allows the user to teleport short distances, useful for quick escapes or rescues. Oda’s combination of these two fruits seems to be a humorous and mischievous choice, fitting with his playful nature.
Eiichiro Oda’s recent Devil Fruit choices in “One Piece” reveal an interesting connection between himself and Sanji.
In Chapter 464, Sanji reveals that one of his lifelong dreams, besides finding All Blue, is to become invisible by eating the “Suke Suke no Mi.” Although Sanji typically isn’t interested in the powers of Devil Fruits, this chapter showcases an exception where he openly desires this fruit, much like Oda’s humorous choices in the SBS. Sadly, Sanji’s dream is crushed when Absalom eats the fruit, leading to an amusing grudge that Sanji holds against him throughout their battle on Thriller Bark.

Sanji, much like Oda in the SBS of “One Piece” Volume 111, claims that he wants the Suke Suke no Mi for noble reasons, such as helping others or saving lives. However, as is often the case with his character, his true motivation is comically simple – to spy on women. Oda’s response to the SBS question about what Devil Fruits he’d like to have mirrors this, as he too chooses the Suke Suke no Mi for “noble” reasons, but we all know the real reason is humorously revealed to be for peeping.
Additionally, Oda once explained in the SBS of Volume 32 why Luffy, Chopper, and Usopp participated in the peeping scene with Nami and Vivi in Chapter 213. He humorously stated, “Why, you ask? Well, that’s because they are all healthy boys. I don’t think there’s any other reason besides that. But for Chopper, he might have done it just because everyone else was. Honestly, not wanting to peek at a beautiful girl when she’s naked is a huge disrespect to the girl, in my opinion, I mean, according to Sanji.”
This explanation highlights Oda’s playful approach to humor and character development, with Sanji’s behavior being a reflection of Oda’s own comic sensibilities. It shows that Oda injects his personal humor into the characters, particularly Sanji, whose motivations for desiring the Suke Suke no Mi are both a reflection of Oda’s personal quirks and a running gag in the series.
