The audience is annoyed by the “sad ending” trend of recent Korean dramas

Korean “movie geeks” have had to go through a huge number of dramas with sad endings recently.

Youth Of May is one of the dramas with the saddest ending in history. Moreover, it is said that this drama was the beginning of a “sad ending” era drama.

This drama is built based on the hurtful period of Korean history so it is understandable that the main couple Myeong Hee (Go Min Si) and Hee Tae (Lee Do Hyun) have a sad ending.

However, the death of Myeong Hee and the fact that Hee Tae has to live the rest of his life in torment still haunts the audience.

Penthouse also aired the final episodes in September 2021 with a crazy ending.  After the constant fighting and revenge, a whole cast of main characters from a good ones to bad passed away.

In addition, My Name also had a bloody ending. After helping the female lead Ji Woo (Han So Hee) start thinking about becoming a normal person like everyone else, Jeon Pil Do (Ahn Bo Hyun) was randomly shot and killed. Their budding love story ended quickly.

The Red Sleeve, the most popular historical film of 2021 also has a rather sad ending but is appreciated for its subtlety. This is a movie that is based on true history so the two main characters can’t get together in the end.

The scriptwriter of the drama was extremely smart to build the fact that the two met each other in another world to somewhat alleviate the sadness in the audience’s heart. However, many people still feel a little bit barbaric and regretful after the movie ends.

When it comes to the “absolute opposite”, Snowdrop is definitely not to be missed. The drama aired in December on JTBC with the participation of Jung Hae In and BLACKPINK Jisoo.

Throughout the drama from the beginning to the end of the movie, both main characters make each other suffer. The end of the drama is also tragic and gloomy when Suho (Jung Hae In) suffered a consecutive bullet storm from saving Young Ro (Ji Soo) then collapsed in the arms of his lover. Although still alive, Young Ro lost her family and the boy she loved. She had to live the rest of her days in loneliness and suffering.

At the beginning of 2022, the audience also constantly suffered from irritation because many of their favorite dramas did not have a satisfying ending. The drama All Of Us Are Dead caused outrage since the main character Lee Cheong San (Yoon Chan Young) has gone through many hardships but could not survive to the end and passed away.

Next, Son Ye Jin‘s comeback drama Thirty-Nine also had a spectacular twist. It is believed that this drama would have a happy ending but unfortunately, the drama is quite gloomy with the death of a 39-year-old character.

Most recently, a healing drama that’s supposed to be happy also has a sad ending. It’s Twenty Five, Twenty One.

Thorugh 15 episodes, the drama soothes the audience with the serene ambiance of the story of friendship, family and love.

Twenty Five Twenty One

All the love and positive reviews of the audience were suddenly shattered when the main couple Na Hee Do (Kim Tae Ri) and Baek Yi Jin (Nam Joo Hyuk) could not come together.

The ending of this drama is considered to be forced and unreasonable when trying to put in the thought that one’s first love will not ever work. Therefore, the whole beauty of the drama has been ruined.

The constant twist of the writers recently is really making the audience feel nervous when watching because of the fear of being disappointed when their favorite couples can’t be together.
