The 2023 KBS Song Festival arouses controversy due to venue location

KBS’s representative “Song Festival”, which has traditionally been held in Seoul, is facing criticisms due to venue change.

The 2023 KBS Song Festival (also known as “KBS Gayo Daechukje”) is scheduled to take place on December 9th at Belluna Dome, which is located in Saitama Prefecture, Japan.

In the past, the festival has typically been held at the KBS Hall in Yeouido. Last year, it took place at the Seoul Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium.

The fact that this festival is being held in Japan instead of in Korea has raised eyebrows among some netizens. Furthermore, it has been pointed out that KBS is a public broadcasting station, making the venue change even more confusing.

As of the moment, various complaints have already been posted on the KBS viewers’ bulletin board. One viewer event left a petition post at the KBS Viewer Rights Center.

“Isn’t KBS a public broadcasting station?”, this viewer wrote, adding, “I can’t understand why they would choose to hold the year-end stage in Japan. I urge them to withdraw this decision right away.”

As of 3 PM (KST) on June 19th, 977 people have agreed with the petition.
