“Thank you BTS, aespa”… The rise of HYBE and SM’s stock prices

HYBE and SM’s stock prices rose on news of major artists’ activities.

According to the Korea Exchange on the afternoon of July 8th, HYBE is trading at 165,000 won, up 4.10% (6,500 won) from the previous trading day.

SM is also trading at 68,800 won, up 3,500 won (5.36%). Compared to YG Entertainment (1.43%) and JYP Entertainment (1.52%), it is a steep rise. The uptrend of HYBE and SM seems to have been a favorable factor as news of major artists such as BTS and aespa was reported.

HYBE Entertainment relieved investors’ anxiety by delivering news of BTS, which temporarily suspended group activities. HYBE and BTS, along with the 2030 Busan World Expo Bidding Committee and Busan City, will launch full-fledged promotional activities to host the 2030 Busan World Expo.

Park Jung-wook, Secretary General of the 2030 Busan World Expo Bidding Committee, plans to officially appoint BTS as the ambassador for the 2030 Busan World Expo this month. BTS announced that they would hold a global concert in Busan in October to inform the world of Busan’s intention to host the World Expo.

Secretary General Park Jung-wook said, “We appreciate HYBE’s active cooperation. In the fierce competition for bids, we are confident that BTS’ support will be a great help in attracting the 2030 World Expo to Busan. The government will carry out negotiation activities to attract bidders with all capabilities.”

BTS showed off their presence with the news that they topped Gaon Chart’s album chart in the first half of 2022 as well as achieved a double platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) with their latest album “Proof”.

In addition, Weverse 2.0, an integrated platform for Weverse and V LIVE, is in the final stages of integration. Some predicted that it will be launched in the middle of this month.

SM’s stock price rose in line with aespa’s comeback. According to SM, the pre-order volume of aespa’s second mini-album “Girls” (released on July 8th) reached 1,610,517 copies as of July 7th, achieving the highest pre-order record for a K-pop girl group.

The album was released at 1 PM on various music sites. aespa plans to hold the live broadcast “aespa ‘Girls’ Comeback Live” through their official YouTube and TikTok channels from 8 PM on July 11th.
