On the broadcast, Kang Ji Seop was seen revealing his dressing room. In that scene, the appearance of a big Jesus painting leaning against one side of the wall caught the eyes of viewers. Unlike the typical Jesus picture, Jesus in this painting has a halo shining behind his head.

Other netizens also pointed out that Kang Ji Seop’s Jesus painting has characteristics that are familiar to JMS believers. Apart from the halo, the eyes of Jesus in this picture look unnaturally large and round. In fact, similar images of Jesus with such characteristics can be found in JMS-related online communities.

An article posted on the anti-JMS website ‘Exodus’ in 2006 was also presented as evidence. The author of the post claimed, “That talented actor Kang Ji Seop, the person who appeared in ‘Dear Heaven’. He is also a JMS member. I heard that he is coming to Busan to listen to JMS teachings.” However, the authenticity of this post has not been confirmed.

A post from Kang Ji Seop’s Twitter account on March 16th, 2012 also fueled suspicions. On that day, he wrote, “Today is the birthday of my life mentor. Congratulations, sir.” It is known that the birth date of JMS’s leader Jeong Myung Seok is March 16th, 1945.

Kang Ji Seop has already stated several times that he is a devout Christian. In an interview with Star News in 2008, he confessed that “my ultimate goal is to preach. To preach to more people, I will work hard to become an actor. To do so, I want to become a true actor”, revealing the reason he selected the acting career path.

Kang Ji Seop has not yet released any position on the allegations.

The JMS controversy recently resurfaced with the release of the 8-episode Netflix documentary series “In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal“, which unveils the dark side of cult religions. In particular, it reveals shocking crimes committed by JMS’s leader Jung Myung Seok, who brainwashed his followers by deifying himself, committed sexual assault, raped female followers of JMS, and engaged in acts of terrorism against opposition groups, causing public outrage.

Jung Myung Seok was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2009 for sexually assaulting a female follower, and was already released. However, he got arrested again in October last year on charges of sexually assaulting and attempting to rape two female followers multiple times.

Kang Ji Seop made his debut in the 2005 through SBS drama “Dear Heaven”. He recently played the main character Kang Tae Poong in the KBS2 daily drama “Vengeance of the Bride”, which ended on March 9th.
