“Supernovas” BLACKPINK becomes the first Asian girl group to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone

BLACKPINK is the first Asian girl group to decorate the cover of Rolling Stone, a famous American magazine.

On May 23rd (local time), Rolling Stone released the cover article for the June issue under the title “How Blackpink Went From Strangers to Sisters to Pop Supernovas”.

Rolling Stone said, “BLACKPINK are one of the most popular artists to ever come out of South Korea”, adding, “Their massive success is part of the Korean Wave, which refers loosely to the global popularity of South Korea’s cultural industry.”

They introduced, “Blackpink’s music projects an explosive, larger-than-life force that’s both invigorating and addictive. They make serious bangers, mixing powerful hip-hop beats with house, EDM, and more.”

In the interview with Rolling Stone, BLACKPINK member Jennie shared, “Our hip-hop isn’t the rebellious kind, but we are doing something very cool”, adding, “Blackpink’s hip-hop is something the world hasn’t seen before.”

BLACKPINK became the third girl group to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone, following the British girl group Spice Girls and the American girl group Destiny’s Child. They are also the first Asian artists to make it.
