‘Superman Is back’ Song Il-kook Addresses Separation Rumors With His Wife

Song Il-kook Addresses Rumors of Separation from His Judge Wife

On the September 29th episode of SBS’s variety show My Little Old Boy (Miwoosae), actor Song Il-kook appeared as a special MC.

During the episode, when asked if he would marry his current wife again in another life, Song Il-kook immediately replied, “Yes.” He humorously added, “My wife will be watching the show,” and shared that his wife joked, “In my next life, I’d rather live alone.”

When asked about rumors that he was happy when his wife received a transfer to a regional post, Song Il-kook refuted the claim, saying, “No, that’s not true. When she got transferred, the news reported that we were separating, which was completely fake news.”

He explained, “The principle was to move together, but at the time, I was working on two musicals, so it was physically impossible to relocate. The kids also didn’t want to leave their friends, so we decided she would come home on weekends.” He added, “My mother lives in the building next door, my sister lives 20 minutes away, and my mother-in-law also lives nearby, so I received a lot of help with raising the triplets.”

Song Il-kook also recalled a unique method he used to win over his wife before they got married. He said, “Given that I’m a celebrity, I thought my wife might have certain prejudices. To prevent any misunderstandings, I approached her first and was open. At that time, there were no smartphones, but there was a location-tracking feature. I didn’t ask for it, but I set it up for her.”

He continued, “I was busy filming Jumong at the time, and one early morning, I received a notification on my phone. My wife had used the location-tracking feature without realizing it would notify me. That’s when I knew she liked me too. She was checking my location every 30 minutes!”

Regarding marital arguments, Song Il-kook said, “We always speak respectfully to each other. If either of us has something to say, we use very formal language, so arguments don’t escalate. My wife is impossible to win against logically, as her job has sharpened her instincts.”

Song Il-kook shared two things he wished from his wife: affection and a late-born daughter. He said, “My real wish is to have twin daughters. I’ve even picked out their names—Uri and Nara (which mean ‘our’ and ‘nation’ in Korean).” However, he added, “When my wife gave birth to our triplets, she almost died. My mother-in-law saw the whole thing and told me, ‘That’s enough for my daughter.'”
