“Looking back, there are so many people I am thankful for during the past 16 years. I would like to express my gratitude and greetings to precious members like another version of myself, my loving family, staff members who silently stayed by our side, fans who supported us with their mere presence, and SM Entertainment. Today is a special day for the 19-year-old Lee Soon Kyu, who debuted as Girls’ Generation Sunny”, Sunny, whose real name is Lee Soon Kyu, said.

The female idol also mentioned SONEs (fans of SNSD) and further shared, “During the 16 years of my entertainment career, I want to thank the managers who worked hard together and all the staff members who helped me provide energy to many people through various stages and content with good music and good appearances. Being able to debut as ‘Girls’ Generation’ and meeting the members and SONEs made me happy everyday.”

“Now, I gather the courage to look at myself from a different perspective in a new environment. This is thanks to the interest and affection of fans who have supported me consistently and the fans who cheered me on even during difficult times. No matter what days lie ahead, I will continue to move forward with the lively spirit of Sunny”, she added.

Meanwhile, SM Entertainment released an official statement on the same day, stating, “Sunny’s exclusive contract with us has ended. We would like to express our gratitude.”

Thank you to Sunny for showing amazing activities during the long period she was with us. We ask for your support for her new path”, they further said.

On the other hand, Sunny debuted as a member of ‘Girls’ Generation’ in 2007. She gained attention for being the niece of Lee Soo Man, the founder and CEO of SM Entertainment at the time. In 2020, Sunny renewed her contract with SM Entertainment along with Taeyeon, Yoona, Yuri, and Hyoyeon.

Members who did not renew their contracts at that time, including Sooyoung, Seohyun, and Tiffany, still participated in the release of the group’s 7th album “FOREVER 1”, which celebrates Girls’ Generation 15th debut anniversary.
