For the first time since her debut with Wonder Girls in 2007, Sunmi opened up about her romantic life and dating style on SBS’s popular talk show My Little Old Boy, aired on November 2.

Although she’s been in the public eye for nearly two decades, Sunmi has never been linked to any dating rumors — something almost unheard of in K-pop. But during her guest appearance as the show’s special MC, she finally broke her silence about how she loves and what kind of person she’s drawn to.

“On stage I might look glamorous, but when I date, I stay in a relationship for a long time,” Sunmi confessed. “I think flirting is a waste of emotions. Once I’m sure I like someone, I go straight for it — like a bulldozer. I’ll say, ‘Don’t even think about just flirting with me.’”

When asked about her ideal type, Sunmi named actor Matt Damon and soccer player Kevin De Bruyne. She then playfully added that she once saw a photo of former basketball player and current cast member Seo Jang-hoon from his younger days:

“His face shape was actually kind of close to my type,” she laughed.

Seo Jang Hoon quickly responded in embarrassment, saying, “I might have the same angles, but the inside’s a mess.”

During the episode, actress Kim Seung-soo’s mother joked, “My son is still single!” prompting Sunmi to respond with an open mind: “These days, age doesn’t really matter.”

However, when Seo Jang-hoon pointed out that Kim Seung-soo was born in 1971 — about 25 years older than Sunmi — she burst out laughing, replying: “He’s the same age as my mom! How would I bring someone home and say, ‘Mom, this is your son-in-law,’ if they’re the same age?”

Sunmi also spoke warmly about her two younger brothers, revealing their deep family bond. “Even now, I still kiss my brothers on the cheek, and when we talk on the phone, we tell each other ‘I love you.’ I’ve been like their mom since we were young — I cooked for them, got them ready for school, and walked them there.”

During the show, she even called one of her brothers live on air. When asked to name three of his sister’s best traits, he replied: “She expresses love openly, she’s generous with her wallet, and she’s always on my side.”

Known for her bold stage presence and introspective artistry, Sunmi has built a career defined by individuality and emotional honesty. Her candid talk on My Little Old Boy offered fans a rare glimpse into her private world — one filled with loyalty, family love, and a “bulldozer” passion for the people she cares about.
