Stray Kids’ Bang Chan Impresses by Resolving Racial Discrimination Situation at Met Gala

The 2024 Met Gala had Stray Kids facing racial discrimination, but the group’s leader Bang Chan handled the situation well.

The incident of Stray Kids being racially discriminated against and receiving offensive comments at the 2024 Met Gala has received significant attention and sparked outrage among the public.

However, even in the face of public racial discrimination, the behavior of Stray Kids members received much praise, especially that of the group’s leader, Bang Chan.

Particularly, according to footage of the incident, Bang Chan appears extremely calm, without any hint of confrontation in response to lack of respect from Met Gala photographers. Instead, immediately after finishing their rodeo at the red carpet, Bang Chan promptly claps his hands, signaling for the other members of the group to quickly leave the red carpet, avoiding a negative environment that could affect their mood. The calm and astute reaction of the 1997-born male idol is being hailed by audiences as fitting the standard of a “mature adult.”

It is also important to note that Bang Chan is fluent in English, and so would understand all the offensive comments from the reporters, but still managed to keep his cool.

Bang Chan’s level-headedness helped Stray Kids avoid unnecessary conflicts and arguments in a situation of racial discrimination at a major event. On social media, the 1997-born singer’s conduct is receiving a flood of praise.

On the other hand, according to Nate, Stray Kids is the first K-pop group in history to step onto the Met Gala red carpet. However, while the group’s visuals drew attention, their outfits were largely deemed to be too “safe” for the largest fashion event of the year.

Prior to Stray Kids, many Asian artists have also faced racial discrimination when attending the Met Gala. Last year, two leading Cbiz stars, Cai Xukun and Jackson Wang (GOT7), found themselves in a similar situation.

At the time, Vogue published a video about Cai Xukun on its official Instagram account, which has nearly 45 million followers of the magazine. However, they initially tagged the personal account of Jackson under the post, show ignorance and enraging the public.
