Starship Gives Update on Lawsuit Against ‘Sojang’ for Defamation of IVE Jang Wonyoung

Regarding the lawsuit filed against the YouTube channel “Sojang” by Starship, an update on the proceedings has been revealed.

On July 25th, Starship stated on their official social media, “In October 2022, we filed a lawsuit against persistent malicious commenters, resulting in a six-month imprisonment, employment restrictions, and a criminal record for spreading false information.”

They also added, “Since November 2022, we have been proceeding with civil and criminal lawsuits against Sojang and conducting international lawsuits.”

Furthermore, they mentioned, “In May 2023, we received an information disclosure order from a U.S. court and obtained the information of the operator of Sojang from Google’s main office in July 2023. However, coincidentally, around the time of the information disclosure notification from Google, Sojang claimed to have been hacked and the account itself disappeared.

Starship’s stance on the matter was firm: “Sojang continuously spread false information and seriously damaged the reputation of our artist, IVE members. Starship will hold them accountable.”

The owner of the Sojang account is known to have criticized various idols on online platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, DC Inside, Instiz, and more, since the time when first-generation idols were popular. Presently, it’s known that the owner is a woman in her late 40s.

Particularly, Sojang concentrated on posting rumor videos and harsh comments targeting popular idols like aespa, Jang Wonyoung, and BTS’s V without any basis.

For Jang Wonyoung, Sojang made groundless claims like “she doesn’t get along with IVE members,” and there is a history of recruiting people to leave malicious comments on Jang Wonyoung’s YouTube videos.

In response to this, Starship stated back in 2019 that they would take legal action against false information and malicious comments related to their artists and have continued to monitor and proceed with lawsuits. BTS V also declared legal action against Sojang in the past.
