“Squid Game” to get US Remake with Oscar-winning Director, Receive Mixed Reactions

The writer-director who will work on “Squid Game” US remake has been announced, leading to  mixed reactions.

On June 24 (local time), it was announced that writer-director David Fincher, who worked on legendary films such as “Fight Club” and “Gone Girl”, alongside TV series “House of Cards” and “Mind Hunter”, will be developing an English-language remake of the hit K-drama “Squid Game”.

The news have sent fans of “Squid Game” and netizens alike to be extremely shocked, both at David Fincher’s participation and the fact that “Squid Game” is already getting an US remake despite Season 2 not even being released yet.

Below are some comments from netizens under an article about the news on the Korean forum ‘theqoo’:

  • It’s exactly the style that Fincher would like… Just look at things like “Fight Club”. Personally, I wish they would work on something like the American brand of the organization in “Squid Game” instead of a remake
  • Wow, David Fincher??? It already sounds like a blockbuster production
  •  Well, it hasn’t been about 10 years, and Part 2 is coming out soon, but they’re already doing a remake? The original work is still in progress. What is this doing?
  • The 2nd season isn’t even released, and yet they are already remaking “Squid Game”??
  • Why are they already doing a remake?
