Speculations after “Squid Game 2” Cast Reveal: Lee Jung Jae’s Daughter to Be Used as Bait?

Netflix recently made a surprise casting announcement for “Squid Game 2,” sparking various speculations about the story.

On June 17th (local time), Netflix unveiled the casting for “Squid Game” Season 2 at the global fan event Tudum. The casting lineup is top-notch, including Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun, Wi Ha Joon, Gong Yoo, as well as Im Si Wan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Sung Hoon, and Yang Dong Geun.

Lee Jung Jae, who won the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards for his role in Season 1, will return as Sung Ki Hoon. Lee Byung Hun, who mesmerized with his extraordinary performance as the Frontman in Season 1, and Wi Ha Joon, who jumped into a mysterious survival game to uncover his brother’s secret as Hwang Jun Ho, will also reprise their roles in Season 2.

Furthermore, the return of Gong Yoo, the mysterious salesman who invited participants to the deadly survival, has also been teased and raised expectations.

Im Si Wan, who showcased a wide range of acting skills by crossing between good and evil in various works, and Kang Ha Neul, who gained the love of many fans through “The Pirates” and “When the Camellia Blooms,” have also decided to join Season 2.

The casting of Park Sung Hoon, who perfectly portrayed an iconic character in Netflix’s hit series “The Glory,” and Yang Dong Geun, who showed off his unique presence in the Netflix film “Night in Paradise” and the drama “Cheer Up,” is also confirmed.

Lee Byung Hun’s character will have a bigger role

Director Hwang Dong Hyuk previously said in an interview, “Ki Hoon will return, and we will delve deeper into the role of the mysterious Frontman.

Using Lee Jung Jae’s daughter as bait to lure him back into the game

Another scenario involves using Lee Jung Jae’s daughter, Ga Young. Screenrant speculates, “The only surviving protagonist, Ki Hoon, seems to have chosen to bring down the organization behind Squid Game rather than live with his daughter. However, since this dystopian organization always uses methods to enforce obedience, they could potentially use Ki Hoon’s daughter as bait to make him participate in the game again.”

Where are the actresses?

Some have pointed out the absence of actresses in this casting announcement. The actresses in Season 1 received praise for their performances. Jung Ho Yeon, who played Sae Byeok, received the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor and the Critics’ Choice Super Awards for Best Actress, while Lee Yoo Mi, who played Ji Yeong, received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress.

Netflix said, “We cannot disclose whether actresses will appear in ‘Season 2’ at this time,” and mentioned that additional casting will be announced soon.

Viewers are eagerly watching whether “Squid Game 2” will once again elevate the status of K-content, just like the first season.
