The trademark police will patrol around the major entrances of the concert venue and nearby subway stations on the day of the concert to crack down on counterfeit merchandise.

Previously, the Korean Intellectual Property Office had been monitoring counterfeit BLACKPINK-related products sold online and confirmed the circulation of numerous counterfeit goods. Some products were created by sellers of counterfeit goods, not official merchandise provided by the agency.

The trademark police conducted a large-scale, organized investigation based on the information collected during the monitoring process. They also took measures such as deleting posts and accounts of sellers who posted counterfeit goods online.

Additionally, they have planned to monitor and crackdown on the sale of counterfeit merchandise at the concert venue itself, where such counterfeit goods are known to be sold intensively on the day of the concert.

In this regard, Park Joo Yeon, head of the special trademark police unit, stated, “As the global status of K-culture rises, there’s an increasing number of counterfeit goods distributors trying to profit from it.” He expressed the hope that “this crackdown will lead to the establishment of a culture of respecting genuine products“.

He also mentioned, “The Korean Intellectual Property Office will continue to monitor and crack down on trademark infringement related to K-culture.”
