Songs by NewJeans, FIFTY FIFTY and BTS Jungkook Listed Among Billboard’s Best Songs of 2023

Songs by NewJeans, FIFTY FIFTY and BTS Jungkook were selected as the best songs of 2023 by Billboard

Billboard unveiled its “The 100 Best Songs of 2023: Staff Picks” list on Dec 8th (KST), recognizing the outstanding contributions of K-pop artists, including NewJeans, FIFTY FIFTY and BTS Jungkook.

NewJeans secured the 38th spot with the title track “Super Shy” from their second mini-album “Get Up”. Billboard said, “NewJeans arrived on the global scene this year seemingly already fully formed, already looking and sounding like pop superstars. But even for them, ‘Super Shy’ was a cut above, a song that integrated cutting-edge production elements from all over the globe for an unrequited-crush song with songwriting and performance strong enough to work nearly as well unplugged. The synth twinkles are awesome, the Jersey club elements inspired.”

FIFTY FIFTY claimed the 50th position with the title track “Cupid” from their first single album. Billboard commented, “One of the most delirious pop songs of 2023, the breakout single for girl group FIFTY FIFTY was so irresistible that it became the first top 10 hit on Billboard‘s Pop Airplay chart for a South Korean group not named BTS. Not hard to see why: ‘Cupid’ mixes disco, pop and rap more effortlessly than any song since ‘Say So’, with irrepressible energy, a five-star chorus and — could it be? — yes, even a late-song key change.”

Jungkook, as the only K-pop solo artist, made it into the top 100 with his first single “Seven (feat. Latto)”, securing the 55th spot. Billboard noted, “We’ve had this one on repeat 24/7 ever since the Golden lead single dropped.

Meanwhile, the top spot for “The 100 Best Songs of 2023” went to SZA’s “Kill Bill”. Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” secured the 2nd place, and Bizarrap & Shakira’s “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” took the 3rd spot.
