Song So-hee’s remark about military service draws sympathy, “How can enlisting be a choice?”

“How can enlisting in the military be a choice? To be honest, it’s all unavoidable.”

Mandatory military service is considered such a sensitive matter that it is difficult to accurately express one’s beliefs, but the fact that Song So-hee was open to voice her position on it has become a trending topic of discussion, drawing sympathy from both male and female fans. 

In a video posted on her YouTube channel in 2020, when a fan who was serving in the military complained that ‘The military service period feels tedious and meaningless’, Song So-hee responded with a realistic statement, “How can enlisting in the military be a choice? Honestly, it’s something that is unavoidable.” 

“As a woman who hasn’t been to the military, it may seem less sincere and we cannot 100% sympathize with and talk about this story, but I’ve talked a lot with my friends who have been in the military,” she said. “I’ve also seen how my friends got enlisted with such concerns and we have talked a lot about what changes have come to them after getting enlisted, to which many of them said they were exhausted. After my friends overcame their crisis and corrected their thoughts into thinking that the remaining time would be their time for themselves, they became really cool people and finished their military services,” she said.

As the contents resurfaced, fans have expected that Song So-hee would be criticized no matter how she speaks about military issues as she is a female celebrity. However, she is being rained on with compliments for her mature attitude.
