Actor Song Kang Ho was selected as a presenter for the closing ceremony of the 76th Cannes Film Festival, marking his 3rd consecutive attendance.
Song Kang Ho was selected as a presenter at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, which will end on May 27th. It is not yet known which category he will hand out awards to. Song Kang Ho won Best Actor thanks to the film “Broker” at the 75th Cannes Film Festival last year.
Song Kang Ho’s new film “Cobweb” (directed by Kim Jee Woon) was invited to the 76th Cannes Film Festival’s non-competitive section.
Song Kang Ho enjoyed the honor of being invited to the Cannes Film Festival for the 8th time with “Cobweb”. In 2021, he was the first Korean male actor to be a judge in the Main competition section. Following winning Best Actor in 2022, he was selected as a presenter for the closing ceremony in 2023, setting a record of attending the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival for 3 years in a row.
Meanwhile, director Kim Jee Woon’s new film “Cobweb” revolves around director Kim (Song Kang Ho), who is obsessed with the fact that the ending of the movie Cobweb, which was filmed in the 1970s, would be better if re-filmed. It is a film that depicts the sad and funny things that happen while filming under conditions.
At the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival, awards will be given in a total of 9 categories, including Palme d’Or, Grand Prix, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Screenplay.
This is Song Kang Ho’s 8th time attending the Cannes Film Festival after “The Host” (2006), “Secret Sunshine” (2007), “The Good, the Bad, the Weird” (2008), “Thirst” (2009), “Parasite” (2019), “Emergency Declaration” (2021) and “Broker” (2022).
In 2021, he played two roles as the main actor of “Emergency Declaration”, which was selected to be screened out of competition, and was the first Korean male actor to be a judge in the Main competition section.
Song Kang Ho, who became the first Asian actor to experience all the roles at Cannes, will take the stage as a presenter this time.
Song Kang Ho, who was praised by the Cannes Film Festival for “contributing to creating a new page in Korean film history”, plans to make a new history as an actor and filmmaker representing Asia by standing on the stage of Cannes’ closing ceremony for the third consecutive year.
Starring Song Kang Ho, Im Soo Jung, Oh Jung Se, Jeon Yeo Bin, Jung Soo Jung, Park Jung Soo and Jang Young Nam, “Cobweb” is scheduled to be released in 2023.
