Song Joong Ki appeared at Cannes alone: Here’s why his first joint public appearance with wife Katy was off

Song Joong Ki and his wife Katy Louise Saunders’ first joint public appearance was off.

Song Joong Ki attended the official screening event of the film “Hopeless” at the 76th Cannes Film Festival held at Salle Debussy, Palais des Festivals, Cannes, France at 11 AM on May 24th.

Prior to the screening, Song Joong Ki went on the red carpet with actors Hong Sa Bin, Kim Hyung Seo (Bibi) and director Kim Chang Hoon. Despite attending the Cannes Film Festival for the first time in his life, Song Joong Ki showed off his relaxed appearance by providing fan service from beginning to end.

Initially, Song Joong Ki’s wife-former actress Katy Louise Saunders was scheduled to attend the event, but unfortunately it did not happen. Katy is heavily pregnant, so it was not appropriate to watch the movie since there were some violent depictions in it.

However, in a media interview, Song Joong Ki expressed his affection, “I came to Cannes with my wife. Although there’s only a month left until the childbirth, it’s a culture that encourages pregnant women to walk and move more. I’m at the film festival, but my mind is all over there.“

Meanwhile, the movie “Hopeless” starring Song Joong Ki was selected to compete in the Un Certain Regard section. “Hopeless” is a noir drama that tells the story of Yeon Gyu (Hong Sa Bin), a boy who wants to escape from the hellish reality, after he met a gang’s middle boss, Chi Geon (Song Joong Ki), and joined the dangerous world.
