Song Hye Kyo joins the donation of 10,000 Korean Independence Movement guidebooks to historical sites in Hawaii
Actress Song Hye Kyo and Professor Seo Kyung Deok have been making meaningful contributions for 12 years.
To commemorate the 78th Liberation Day, actress Song Hye Kyo and Sungshin Women’s University’s Professor Seo Kyung Deok jointly donated a guidebook to introduce the Korean Independence Movement at historical sites in Hawaii, the U.S.
10,000 copies of this guidebook, which has both Korean and English explanations, were donated to the University of Hawaii’s Korean Studies Center, allowing visitors to use it for free.
The guidebook provides comprehensive explanations of the Korean Independence Movement in Hawaii, as well as details about locations, such as the Korean People’s Association Hall in Honolulu, the Korean National Association Building, and the Oahu Cemetery.
Professor Seo, who planned this project, shared, “It’s a great idea to visit famous tourist attractions in Hawaii to celebrate the 12th anniversary of Korean Immigration to America. However, I decided to publish a guidebook to encourage visitors to also visit historical sites related to the Korean Independence Movement”.
He continued, “Due to the long Covid-19 pandemic period, the situation of Korean historical sites in foreign countries is very good”, adding “Continuous interest and visits of Koreans add the greatest strength in promoting and preserving overseas historical sites that remain after the Independence Movement”.
In addition, people who cannot visit the historical sites in Hawaii can download the original file of the guidebook from the website called “History of Korea”.
Meanwhile, Korean guidebooks, Korean signboards, and relief sculptures have been donated to 34 Korean historical sites that remain overseas under Professor Seo Kyung Deok’s plan and actress Song Hye Kyo’s sponsorship.
