On the morning of the 21st, Netflix held the “Next on Netflix 2026 Korea” event at a hotel in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo District, Seoul. The annual event serves as a platform for Netflix to introduce its content direction and lineup for the coming year, with executives and creators presenting upcoming projects.
Netflix Korea Vice President Kang Dong-han attended the event alongside senior directors and content executives, including Bae Jong-byung, Kim Tae-won, and Yoo Ki-hwan, who shared insights into Netflix Korea’s overall content strategy. Actors from various Netflix projects, such as Jeon Do-yeon, Nam Joo-hyuk, Son Ye-jin, Park Eun-bin, and chef Ahn Sung-jae, also appeared to talk about their works.
While unveiling the drama lineup, Senior Director Bae Jong-byung introduced writer Noh Hee-kyung’s new Netflix series, Tantara. Tantara is set against the backdrop of South Korea’s entertainment industry from the 1960s to the 1980s, a period marked by brutality, violence, and intense ambition. The series tells the story of individuals who, despite having nothing, devoted their entire lives to chasing dreams of success, depicting their growth and emotional journeys.
The script is written by Noh Hee-kyung, known for works such as Our Blues, Dear My Friends, and It’s Okay, That’s Love, while director Lee Yoon-jung of Coffee Prince and Cheese in the Trap leads the production.
Bae Jong-byung expressed strong anticipation for the project, stating, “Set in the entertainment industry from the 1960s to the 1980s, viewers will encounter a passionate story. True to the title, Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo – names that alone spark excitement – have come together intensely. Alongside them, actors Kim Seol-hyun (Seolhyun), Cha Seung-won, and Honey Lee also join the cast, vividly portraying human desire, emotion, and the density of life.”
Newly released still cuts from Tantara showcase Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo together for the first time, further heightening curiosity about their performances in the decades-spanning narrative. Tantara is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in the fourth quarter of this year.
