Son Yeon Jae Reveals Pregnancy and Shares Thoughts on Whether She Would Let Her Child Pursue Rhythmic Gymnastics

If Son Yeon Jae gave birth to a daughter, she wouldn’t want to push rhythmic gymnastics.

Born in 1994, Son Yeon Jae, who still boasts her fairy-like beauty, has personally revealed her pregnancy.

On the August 20th broadcast of JTBC’s ‘Newsroom’, Son Yeon Jae appeared. She recently donated 50 million won to Severance Children’s Hospital and 20 million won to Seoul National University Children’s Hospital and became a hot topic.

Son Yeon Jae, who has been donating since her athlete days, answered the question of whether there was a reason for donating to children’s hospitals, “I became more interested while teaching my friends, and personally, becoming a mother made me interested, so I think it’s a meaningful thing and I plan to continue it”.

Son Yeon Jae added, “Many people were surprised by the fact that I got married, so I think they might not be too surprised. I’m having a happier time than ever before. I want to continue to do meaningful activities in the future.”

Asked if she would recommend rhythmic gymnastics to her daughter if she has a daughter, Son Yeon Jae expressed, “Personally, I don’t want to push it. The process would be tough to do well, and if I had to go through it again, I wouldn’t recommend it, but if she wants to do it, I suppose there’s no avoiding it.”

As a coach teaching young athletes, Son Yeon Jae said, “I believe that popularizing rhythmic gymnastics should come before creating elite athletes. I’ve been learning a lot about children as I work with those who are starting rhythmic gymnastics for the first time. I try to be friendly and approachable like a close teacher.”

Son Yeon Jae, who stated that her athlete days were better, revealed, “It’s been about five years, and I’ve finally adapted. I thought that coaching and training were different. Through this process, I’ve also grown a lot.”

Currently, Son Yeon Jae hosts international competitions every year to nurture young rhythmic gymnastics talents. She shared, “When I participated in international competitions as an athlete, I was awed by the talented European athletes. It made me feel small. However, through continuous repetition and competition, even those big events became ordinary. So, I thought that if Korean athletes gain such experience from a young age, they might achieve good results. That’s why I decided to host this competition.”

She also encouraged juniors, “As an athlete, you have to go through a challenging process to succeed. So, I want to tell them to endure a little more for success in those magnificent competitions.”

Regarding her future plans, she said, “Activities for events like these and the popularization of rhythmic gymnastics are difficult and time-consuming tasks. I consider them lifelong challenges. I want to work hard for a long time.”

Meanwhile, last year in August, Son Yeon Jae married a 9-year older financial industry professional.
