Netflix has officially confirmed the production of a new series titled “Variety”, unveiling the casting of acclaimed actress Son Ye-jin and rising star Jo Yu-ri. The series centers on the dazzling yet cutthroat world of K-pop entertainment, following the story of Se-eun, a powerful entertainment agency CEO, and Seung-hee, an obsessive fan who will stop at nothing to get close to her favorite idol.
Helmed by director Kim Yong-hoon, known for his critically praised works “Mask Girl” and “Animals That Even Grasp at Straw”, “Variety” promises a bold narrative that digs deep into the ambitions and desires of those orbiting the glamorous yet perilous K-pop industry. With his signature cinematic flair and compelling storytelling, Kim aims to expose the hidden chaos behind the glossy façade of stardom.

Son Ye-jin, renowned for her transformative performances, plays Se-eun, a strategic and ruthless entertainment executive. She’s a woman who will make cold-blooded decisions to secure a re-signing deal with the idol group she built from the ground up. Son is expected to portray the fierce, ambitious side of Se-eun, while also navigating the character’s vulnerability in unpredictable emotional extremes.

Jo Yu-ri, who gained attention through “Squid Game” Seasons 2 and 3, takes on the role of Seung-hee, a die-hard fan whose obsession with her favorite idol borders on dangerous. Known for her fresh and impactful acting, Jo is set to bring depth and complexity to Seung-hee, a character driven by twisted affection and obsessive devotion.
