Written by Kim Eun Sook, who has been so famous for her melodrama hits, such as “On Air”, “Secret Garden”, “The Heirs”, Descendants of the Sun”, “Goblin”, etc., gained compliments for her challenge of a revenge drama instead of another romantic work.

Earlier in a commentary video ahead of “The Glory” Part 1 release, Kim Eun Sook said, “If the director hadn’t stopped me, Song Hye Kyo and Lee Do Hyun would have had a kiss scene in episode 4”, revealing that she gave up on the kiss scene.

Without a kiss scene, Part 1 still clearly revealed the unique relationship between Moon Dong Eun (Song Hye Kyo), who designs a revenge plan, and Joo Yeo Jeong (Lee Do Hyun), who becomes Moon Dong Eun’s executioner. Joo Yeo Jeong falls in love at first sight with Moon Dong Eun but he tries not to burden her while offering his help. Unlike her previous scripts, Kim Eun Sook refrains from pushing ahead with the main characters’ romance in “The Glory” because Moon Dong Eun has a more important thing to focus on.

In fact, the one and only kiss scene of the couple appears in the last episode of Part 2. Moon Dong Eun, who disappears to reorganize her life after punishing the school violence perpetrators, shows up in front of Joo Yeo Jeong again and kisses him to comfort his painful heart. The two’s relationship starts with revenge and develops into solidarity then love that has been solidified through various struggles.

Some viewers argue that it is unnatural for two people to kiss when the school violence perpetrators are collapsing sequentially. However, others questions,” isn’t this the best result that Moon Dong Eun could take from her revenge?”. Rather than a heartbreaking romance, that kiss is more like a toast, a parade to celebrate the success of her revenge and the finale of the victory that we have all longed for.

Unlike other kiss scenes that Kim Eun Sook created, the kiss scene in “The Glory” was made not as a mistake but with good intentions. The way Kim Eun Sook decided to slowly develop the love line and put a kiss scene at the end of the drama after all the revenge is reasonable to achieve a perfect ending. It’s Moon Dong Eun’s victory and also Kim Eun Sook’s victory.
