SNSD and how they feel the Kpop “generation gap” after 5 years of absence

Finally returning to the Kpop scene after 5 years, members of the gen 2 girl group SNSD discover a lot of differences

Having been missing from the Kpop scene for half a decade, many members of 2nd gen girl group SNSD (also known as Girls’ Generation) are now struggling to grasp new terms and changes across the years. Many fans are finding this extremely cute, and below are several differences mentioned by SNSD.

4K quality cameras

Kpop fans nowadays get to watch content like variety shows, fancams, and stage performance in high-quality video formats, like 4K or even 8K. However, back during the days, 1080p was as good as it got.

Therefore, it was not surprising to see SNSD Sooyoung getting confused about 4K when she read fans’ comments. In addition, she also felt new when the group’s leader, Taeyeon, talked about specialized cameras (such as the jimmy jib), which follows each member to record “individual fancams”.

Fans gathering at broadcasting stations

In her interview with Rolling Stone magazine, SNSD Yuri expressed her surprise to see numerous fans gathering in front of broadcasting stations just to get a glimpse of their favorite idols, even during weekdays.

“I was taken aback when I learned that it was common for fans to take photos and videos of idols on the way to music shows,” she said, “Don’t you guys have to go to school or work?”

Performances without audience

Back when the Covid-19 epidemic broke out, music programs in Korea had to take place without an audience. Concerts also had to be conducted online. In offline concerts, the audience was not allowed to cheer. This was a shock to Sooyoung because she believes that the audience is a great source of motivation for artists when performing: “I think the situation is much better now, but I was surprised to learn that groups that debuted during the pandemic did not have the opportunity to perform in front of the audience. It hurts to know that because thanks to the fans, the artist gets a lot of energy.”

SNSD

Making a comeback after a long time, possibly in the days to come, SNSD will encounter more novelties of the current Kpop era. Recently, the members had their first promotional stage for the song “Forever 1” on Music Bank.
