“Snowdrop” director Jo Hyun-tak: “Please focus on people rather than North Korea, politics or ideology”

Director Jo Hyun-tak of “Snowdrop” revealed the work’s planning intention.

At the production presentation for JTBC’s new weekend drama “Snowdrop” (written by Yoo Hyun-mi / directed by Jo Hyun-tak) that was held online on Dec 16th, director Jo Hyun-tak shared, “‘Snowdrop‘ is a project that writer Yoo Hyun-mi has been preparing for a long time.”

He then explained, “She said that she was inspired when she saw the handwriting of North Korean defectors who defected from a political prison camp in 2008. The story was expanded through twists and turns as well as various processes. Besides, the writer herself had real experience in the dormitory while attending college in the 1980s.

He added, “The work was prepared and materialized as we combined two above-mentioned things. However, rather than focusing on North Korea, politics or ideology, we tried to look deeply and closely into people.

Set in Seoul 1987, “Snowdrop” tells the love story of Suho (Jung Hae-in), a prestigious university student who suddenly jumps into the dormitory of a women’s university, and female college student Youngro (Jisoo), who hides and takes care of Suho amidst the serious surveillance and crisis. It will premiere at 10:30 P.M on Dec 18th.
