SM under fire for staying silent for a week about NCT’s Johnny and Jaehyun getting COVID-19

SM only broke the news today (Aug 1) when NCT’s Johnny and Jaehyun first tested positive for COVID-19 last week.

Earlier today (August 1), a day before NCT 127’s fan meeting in Japan, SM released a statement saying 3 members of the group, including Mark, Johnny, and Jaehyun, were diagnosed with COVID-19 last week.

Under the guidance of Korean health authorities, Mark, Johnny, and Jaehyun were in self-quarantine for 7 days and received in-home treatment. After the quarantine was lifted, they underwent PCR tests to depart for Japan and attend NCT 127’s fan meeting. However, the results still came back positive. Therefore, they were not able to leave Korea. The fan meeting will proceed with the remaining 6 members of NCT 127.

What causes fans’ outrage following SM’s announcement is that except for Mark, who was confirmed to get COVID-19 last Monday ahead of NCT Dream’s concert, SM hid the fact that Johnny and Jaehyun also tested positive from fans for a week.

While most fans already expected Mark to sit out of NCT 127’s fan meeting in Japan, the news of Johnny and Jaehyun’s absence has totally caught fans off guard. SM only informing fans about Johnny and Jaehyun’s conditions a day before the fan meeting has also made it impossible for them to get ticket refunds.

Last week, NCT Dream had to call off their Seoul concert “THE DREAM SHOW 2: In A DREAM”, which was scheduled to be held for 3 days from July 29-31, after members Mark and Renjun were confirmed positive for COVID-19. Tickets for NCT Dream’s canceled concert will be fully refunded.
