SM Entertainment is actively entering the European market by joining hands with a British entertainment company

On November 16, SM announced that they held a strategic partnership signing ceremony with  the British entertainment company MOON&BACK (hereinafter referred to as M&B) at their Seoul Seongsu-dong headquarters. This agreement was reached through close discussions between the two parties.

The ceremony was attended by various chief officers of SM, and a total of 9 individuals from M&B, including its co-CEOs and music director.

This collaboration holds significant meaning as SM intensifies its development and investment in global music/artist intellectual property (IP). The collaboration between SM, a leading force in K-pop, and M&B, a specialist in TV reality shows, is expected to produce a boy group that will dominate the global market. Particularly, the debut of this collaborative boy group, the first of its kind between Korea and the birthplace of pop, the UK, is expected to capture global attention.

M&B, based in London, is an entertainment and TV program production company founded by Nigel Hall, who created the globally renowned boy group “One Direction” through shows like “The X Factor” and “Britain’s Got Talent”, along with Russ Lindsay, the designer of the James Grant Media Group, and Dawn Airey, an expert in broadcast content who served as Yahoo’s former Senior Vice President and Getty Images’ CEO.

M&B will directly cast members for the boy group’s debut in the UK, while SM will provide expertise in music, music videos, choreography, and other aspects of K-pop. The songs performed by the group will be overseen by SM’s music publishing subsidiary, KMR (Kreation Music Rights).

M&B plans to showcase the growth process of the boy group through a 6-episode TV series scheduled to air in Korea, the UK, and the US starting in the second half of next year. The series, combining K-pop with the debut of the first British boy group, aims to highlight the group’s energetic journey and growth as musicians.
