The highly anticipated sequel to “Signal” has hit an unexpected pause, leaving fans uncertain about when or if they’ll finally see it.
Originally planned as a flagship project celebrating tvN’s 20th anniversary, Signal 2 was set to air in June 2026. But despite completing filming, the drama has now been quietly removed from the network’s summer lineup. In its place, tvN is preparing to broadcast Pachinko, signaling a major last-minute shift in programming.

At the center of the issue is lead actor Cho Jin Woong, whose past resurfaced in recent reports and quickly escalated into a national controversy. Allegations included serious juvenile offenses, a past assault case, and a history of drunk driving.
While his agency acknowledged that he had committed wrongdoing as a minor, they emphasized that the incidents occurred over 30 years ago and that all legal matters had long been resolved. They also firmly denied any connection to sexual assault allegations.
Still, the public reaction was swift and intense. As scrutiny grew, Cho Jin Woong issued a formal apology and announced his retirement from acting, stating that stepping away was his way of taking responsibility. His departure has left Signal 2 in a difficult position, especially given how central his character was to the story.

The situation is particularly unfortunate considering the weight behind the project. The sequel reunites original stars Kim Hye Soo and Lee Je Hoon, along with writer Kim Eun Hee, whose work helped make the 2016 series a landmark in Korean crime dramas. Expectations had been high for a follow-up nearly a decade in the making.
For now, tvN is not calling it a cancellation. Insiders say the network is still considering a release later in 2026, possibly toward the end of the year. The delay appears to be a strategic decision, giving time for public sentiment to settle while preserving the legacy of a beloved franchise.
In the meantime, Pachinko will take over the vacant slot, offering viewers a globally acclaimed alternative but for many fans, the question remains whether Signal 2 can overcome this setback and eventually make it to air.
