SHINee’s Taemin Shares Heartfelt Handwritten Letter to Fans Upon Military Discharge: “I’ll Be a Support for Your Happiness”
SHINee member Taemin shared his thoughts upon completing his military service.
On April 4, SHINee’s Taemin released a heartfelt letter addressed to his fans through the SM Entertainment fan community, Kwangya Club, after being discharged from the military.
Taemin stated, “Hello, this is Taemin. (Serving in the military) was a valuable time for me to reflect on myself, and I realized how grateful and happy I was for the time I spent in the past.”
He continued, “I missed you so much that words are not enough to express it. I think your hearts that waited for me were the same as mine. These thoughts gave me strength and became one of the reasons that matured me.”
Taemin expressed his gratitude to his fans for treating him as a special person and promised to repay them with a sense of duty and gratitude for the rest of his life. “I will be a support for your happiness. Please take care of me from now on,” he added.
Taemin enlisted in May 2021 and began his military service in the Army Band after completing basic military training. However, his depression and panic disorder worsened during his military service, causing him to withdraw from active duty and become a reservist.
Meanwhile, with Taemin’s discharge, all SHINee members have completed their mandatory military service, and they are preparing to return as a full group in May.

It feels like it was a long and short time for me. It was a valuable time for me to reflect on myself, and I realized how grateful and happy I was for the time I spent in the past.
