SHINee Key’s Heartwarming Act of Supporting Child’s Leukemia Medication Costs

A heartwarming story about SHINee’s Key has been revealed.

On September 12th, on the YouTube channel ‘DdeunDdeun,’ SHINee’s Key met Yoo Jae Suk and Ji Suk Jin and shared various stories.

Among the comments on the video, one netizen revealed a hidden anecdote about Key, “Thank you, SHINee Key, for supporting our son’s leukemia medication expenses (which are a very large amount) even though they are not covered by insurance. Thanks to you, our son is doing well now. Once again, I bow my head in gratitude.”

This was an unknown story to fans. Netizens left replies such as “It’s the first time I’ve heard this story, and it’s so heartwarming. I hope your son fully recovers,” “It’s great to hear that your son is healthy now,” “I wonder if he went to Kyung Hee University Hospital. Both the baby who had a hard time with treatment and the author who must have had a tougher time, I hope you all live happily.”

In 2019, just before his military enlistment, SHINee’s Key visited Chilgok Kyungpook National University Hospital and donated 10 million won. At the time, Key visited the hospital ward where sick children were hospitalized, took commemorative photos, and delivered words of encouragement. The hospital stated that the entire donation would be used to support the medical expenses and supplies of financially challenged children.

The following year, Key’s fans also donated 12.1 million won to the Korean Childhood Leukemia Foundation in celebration of Key’s thirtieth birthday. The foundation announced that the entire donation would be used for emergency pediatric cancer treatment expenses for single-parent families facing economic difficulties due to COVID-19, in Key’s name.

Key also reminisced about his challenging debut process on ‘DdeunDdeun.’ Key said, “I don’t think I could do it again. When we didn’t know, we just kept trying, and it was so hard.” He recalled, “Originally, there were eight of us. We were selected from a pool of 20 guys. Some friends went back to China, and at the end, we didn’t really talk much. Every minute and every second was precious because we thought we might not make it. It was the last test, and we filmed one video. We really sharpened our skills, prepared from introducing ourselves. Every fellow trainee we were practicing with was a competitor.”

Key added, “It’s hard to understand. I wish we could have done it one-on-one with cards or something. Instead, they called everyone and asked, ‘Who are the members?’ Isn’t it hard to like each other from that? I was called fourth out of five. Three members were almost fixed. Jonghyun, Taemin, and Minho. Minho, although he went back and forth a little, but those two didn’t budge. ‘Those two are fixed. How many are left? If these two go up, that’s it.'”
