SHINee Taemin will continue his military service as a social worker owing to depression and anxiety

Taemin will serve the rest of his military duty as a public service worker after first joining as a member of the military band.

On January 14, 2022, SM posted a statement that Taemin (SHINee) has been transferred to continue his military service as a social worker and not as part of the military band anymore. The reasons are that he has been suffering from severe depression and panic disorder.

Here is the full text of SM:

“This is SM Entertainment.

From 14 January 2022, Taemin has been transferred from the Ministry of Defense’s Military Band Service Support Group to reservist duty.

While serving, Taemin has been receiving continuous treatment and counselling for his symptoms of depression and panic disorder which he has been suffering from before, but with aggravated symptoms, he has been transferred to reservist duty as in accordance with the military’s judgment and measures, it is impossible for him to continue his military service simultaneous with treatment.

Therefore, Taemin will be carrying out national defense duties as a military social worker.

We apologise for causing concern with the sudden news. Henceforth, the company will be focusing on Taemin’s treatment and will do our best to ensure his stable condition.

Previously, Taemin officially started his military service on May 31, 2021.
