Shin Se-kyung Praised for Tremendous Acting Improvement in new K-drama 

The improved acting of actress Shin Se-kyung in historical K-drama “Captivating the King” has garnered positive comments. 

The currently-airing historical K-drama “Captivating the King”, which features Jo Jung-suk and Shin Se-kyung, has been drawing massive attention from the audience. 

In particular, viewers have been captivated by Jo Jung-suk’s outstanding performance, with many emotionally intense moments leaving a lasting impression. Meanwhile, Shin Se-kyung initially faced skepticism about her acting abilities despite working in the industry for over a decade, often criticized for her stiff expressions despite starring in major projects.

However, in the latest developments of “Captivating the King,” there was a surprise as Shin Se-kyung received praise from both audiences and Korean media for her performance, which was deemed “passionate.” 

In the most recent episode aired on February 18, Shin Se-kyung’s character Hee-soo is on the verge of successfully seeking revenge but is heartbroken at the prospect of losing the love she just found.

The scene where Hee-soo’s eyes welled up with tears, unable to contain her emotions when facing Yi-in (Jo Jung-suk), deeply moved many viewers. This was a moment when Hee-soo could have completed her revenge by killing Yi-in, but seeing Yi-in’s concern for her, she couldn’t suppress her emotions. Ultimately, she betrays her ideals and prevents Yi-in from heading to his death, causing Yi-in to doubt her intentions while Hee-soo struggles to explain herself.

Captivating The King

Regarding this scene, Korean media site Naver highly praises Shin Se-kyung’s performance, saying,  “The internal conflict of the character, torn between seeking revenge and protecting her love, is portrayed deeply by Shin Se-kyung with her passionate acting.”

Overall, it can be seen that “Captivating the King” marks a significant improvement for Shin Se-kyung as an actress, who is constantly growing through each of her work.
