In a new episode of the YouTube show Zzanbro released on May 25, Shin Dong Yup brought up Lee Hyori’s family loss while talking about comedian Lee Ho Chul.
Shin Dong Yup explained, “When Hyori’s father passed away, she didn’t tell anyone about it.” He added that he did not receive direct contact from Lee Hyori herself and instead visited the funeral hall quietly after finishing work late at night.
Last month on April 12, Lee Hyori’s father passed away. The singer reportedly stayed by the funeral hall together with her husband Lee Sang Soon while fulfilling her duties as the chief mourner. Fin.K.L members Ock Joo Hyun, Lee Jin, and Sung Yu Ri were also reported to have visited and offered condolences.
Shin Dong Yup and Lee Hyori have maintained a close friendship in the entertainment industry for many years. Lee Hyori was especially meaningful to the Zzanbro program as she appeared as the very first guest on the show. Through that connection, she even sang a congratulatory song at Lee Ho Chul’s wedding.
During the episode, Shin Dong Yup also shared another story involving Lee Ho Chul and his wife, whom he met at the funeral hall that day.
He recalled, “When I got there, Ho Chul and his wife were already there,” before adding, “Afterward, we ended up having a beer near my house.”
Shin Dong Yup then jokingly revealed what Lee Ho Chul’s wife had told him during their gathering, making everyone laugh. He said, “She told me that these days, since Ho Chul has become busier and is doing better financially, he sometimes acts proud and tries to look tough.”
However, Shin Dong Yup immediately followed up with affection, saying, “But he’s originally someone who constantly expresses gratitude toward his wife.” He added, “He’s like a real younger brother to me, so I find him very lovable and cute.”
Shin Dong Yup also revealed that after hearing Lee Ho Chul’s wife talk about their situation, he even gave the couple a generous amount of spending money. In response, Lee Ho Chul shared, “My wife was really surprised and thankful too.”
