Comedian Shin Bong Sun candidly opened up about preparing for life after retirement, revealing that she consistently saved 1 million won (approximately $730) every month for 10 years while also sharing her mother’s concerns about her remaining single.

The 47-year-old entertainer appeared as a special guest on the July 5 episode of SBS’s variety show My Little Old Boy. Shin Bong Sun immediately caught everyone’s attention with her noticeably slimmer figure.

The panel of celebrity mothers complimented her, saying she looked “so much slimmer and prettier.” Responding with her trademark humor, she quipped, “I’ll look even prettier tomorrow.” Her witty answer drew laughter from the studio.

Host Seo Jang Hoon brought up rumors that Shin Bong Sun’s former boyfriends had all been tall and handsome. Laughing, she replied, “How am I supposed to prove that? They’re all married and have families now.” She also revealed that her last relationship was in her 30s. “When I was in my 30s, people would still try to set me up with men because I had this ‘not pretty but cute’ image,” she explained. “But once I entered my 40s, those kinds of comments started feeling inappropriate.” She jokingly added, “Sometimes I feel like I don’t belong in either the men’s or women’s category I’m just… a human.”

Shin Bong Sun admitted that she gradually shifted her priorities away from marriage and toward building a stable future for herself. “If marriage were something I could do on my own, I’d work really hard at it,” she said. “But you have to win another person’s heart. At some point, I felt that spending my time chasing that wasn’t worth it.”

Instead, she focused on financial security. “I started contributing 1 million won every month to a pension savings plan in my late 20s, and after 10 years, it finally matured.” She continued, “Now I’m looking into different financial options. I’m practicing how to live happily and enjoy life on my own.”

Shin Bong Sun also shared how her mother’s attitude toward marriage has changed over the years. “My mom used to tell me, ‘Men aren’t that special. If he’s kind, just marry him.’ Now she says, ‘Who would be able to handle your personality?'”

The comedian burst into laughter as she recalled another memorable conversation. “While watching TV, my mom even asked, ‘How about freezing your eggs?’ I honestly thought she meant buying an egg freezer.” The unexpected misunderstanding had the studio in stitches.

Despite the jokes, Shin Bong Sun acknowledged the heartfelt reason behind her mother’s comments. “I think my mom is worried that I’ll end up alone someday,” she said.

Her candid remarks resonated with viewers, offering an honest look at changing perspectives on marriage, financial independence, and preparing for the future while balancing family expectations.
