At the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) opening ceremony on September 17, actress Shim Eun-kyung turned heads with an unconventional fashion choice that has since gone viral. While most female stars graced the red carpet in elegant gowns, Shim opted for a sharply tailored suit, embodying a “prince-like aura” that left fans and the media captivated.

Her outfit featured a black-and-white jacket paired with sleek trousers. The collar and sleeves were highlighted with golden embroidery, exuding a refined yet bold statement. Adding to the striking silhouette was an asymmetrical white ruffle shirt, which gave the look an artistic and theatrical flair.

During a press conference, Shim Eun-kyung expressed her excitement: “It is an honor to introduce Two Seasons, Two Strangers at the 30th Busan International Film Festival, especially in the newly established main competition section.”

She also reflected on her unique connection with director Sho Miyake, recalling how she first met him during a GV event for his 2018 film And Your Bird Can Sing. “It feels emotional to stand here again three years later with his latest work,” she added.

Shim Eun-kyung’s short hairstyle, intense gaze, and the single rose she carried in her hand completed the look, reminiscent of a scene from a vintage pictorial. The unexpected styling immediately sparked buzz online, with netizens flooding comment sections with praise: “She’s a real prince,” “This gives off Michael Jackson vibes,” and “So chic and unique.”

In a follow-up interview with Deep Magazine, Shim Eun-kyung admitted that she hadn’t expected such a strong reaction: “I never thought people would call it a ‘prince look.’ I just really love suits, so I wanted to present a cool outfit that showcased that.”

Later, on her social media, she reflected on the experience, saying the festival schedule passed by too quickly. She added: “I’m always so thankful to our fans who support me. I exist because of you. I’ll work even harder to live up to your love.”

The actress, who made history as the first Korean to win the Japan Academy Prize for Best Actress, continues to expand her career internationally. She will next appear in the Japanese film Two Seasons, Two Strangers, which is scheduled for a December release in Korea.

Shim Eun Kyung’s daring red carpet choice has not only redefined elegance but also demonstrated the growing acceptance of diverse, gender-fluid fashion statements in the Korean entertainment industry.
