Seungri Plans To Open New Club Amid Re-examination Of Burning Sun Scandal?

It seems like former BIGBANG member Seungri doesn’t have any sense of guilt about the crimes he committed in the Burning Sun Scandal

The Burning Sun Scandal broke out in 2018 and ended after 11 months in frustration as many people believed that the sentences for the perpetrators were not strict enough. Recently, this scandal was brought up for re-examination due to the release of BBC’s documentary “Burning Sun: Exposing the secret K-pop chat groups”.

The documentary covered testimonies from two entertainment reporters who investigated and brought the truth about the Burning Sun crimes to light. Showing unreleased footage proving the violence and cruelty of these problematic idols, the documentary caused netizens to once again pour criticism on the perpetrators, especially former BIGBANG member Seungri – the key figure of the case.

In May 2022, the Seoul High Court sentenced Seungri to 18 months in prison on 9 charges including prostitution, embezzlement, sexual assault, etc. After getting out of prison, he has contacted many acquaintances and entertainment industry officials. SPOTV News cited a source claiming that Seungri called asking, “How have you been doing?”, with a calm and bright voice tone. Even after serving an imprisonment sentence, the former BIGBANG member has not yet given up on his clubbing hobby. According to another source, Seungri is still inviting friends and celebrities to party at clubs frequently.

After BBC released the Burning Sun documentary, a netizen shared information about Seungri’s whereabouts, specifying that he is planning to open a new club. In particular, this person said, “This guy won’t disappear. My friend recently saw him at Creamfields Hong Kong (a music festival held in April). I also heard from a friend who is working at a club that Seungri is going to stay in Hong Kong for a long time to start a business there. I don’t want him to come to Hong Kong to make money”

This netizen also shared her conversation with a friend about Seungri. In the conversation, the friend said, “Yes, he’s still getting along with club bosses and wine distributors. Seems like it has something with his business. Women who had plastic surgery and gold diggers also take this chance to get his attention”.

Rumors of Seungri planning to open a new club spread rapidly online and netizens are very angry about that. Some commented, “Just live your whole life there (in Hong Kong). I hope women will avoid him”, “I guess he’s going to continue doing business with illegal drugs and prostitution. That’s crazy. He’s too shameless! He even sang BIGBANG songs at events and bragged about bringing G-Dragon to parties. Don’t they release him from prison too early?”, “So he’s going to repeat his crimes in Hong Kong?”, etc.

On November 24th, 2018, a man named Kim Sang-kyo was attacked at Burning Sun, a club in Gangnam owned by Seungri. This man got attacked when he came forward to help a woman who was sexually harassed. After the fight, the police began to investigate Burning Sun and found many other crimes. In fact, the most shocking detail was the existence of Jung Joon-young’s group chat where this male singer shared sex footage and illegally filmed videos of women with his friends. Apart from Seungri and Jung Joon-young, Choi Jong-hoon, Lee Jong-hyun, Roy Kim, Eddie Kim, and Yong Jun-hyung are other K-pop stars who were involved in the scandal.
