On December 29, her agency Sublime announced that Seo Ye-ji will take the stage in The Hymn of Death, her debut theatrical production. The agency stated, “Seo Ye-ji is keeping her promise to meet fans through a project in 2025 by challenging herself with The Hymn of Death. The play is scheduled to be staged next year, and she is currently fully immersed in rehearsals with a busy schedule.”
The Hymn of Death is a stage production set in the turbulent 1920s, depicting artists who lived through an era of upheaval while grappling with love and an unyielding longing for freedom they ultimately could not abandon.

In the play, Seo Ye-ji portrays Yun Shim-deok, a tragic soprano whose life left a deep mark on her era. The character is written as a woman with a complex inner world—someone who, despite social oppression, refuses to give up art, love, and her own choices.
Her agency explained, “Yun Shim-deok is not simply a figure swept away by a tragic fate, but a character reinterpreted as someone who actively makes choices about her life and relationships. Through Seo Ye-ji’s delicate yet powerful expressive ability, the character’s individuality and emotional depth are expected to be elevated even further.”

This project marks Seo Ye-ji’s first acting work since the 2022 tvN drama Eve, ending a hiatus of approximately four years. During that time, her career was put on hold amid multiple personal controversies, including allegations related to academic background fabrication and disputes connected to her former relationship with actor Kim Jung-hyun, which generated widespread public debate.
Seo Ye-ji’s stage debut The Hymn of Death will run from January 30 to March 2, 2026, at the M Theater of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul. Tickets will be available through NOL Ticket and the Sejong Center’s official website.
With her return through theater—a demanding and intimate medium—attention is now focused on how Seo Ye-ji will reestablish herself as an actress after years away from the spotlight.
